Under a strategic partnership to market high GLA (gamma linoleic acid) safflower oil, Arcadia Biosciences, Davis, CA, will produce the oil while Bioriginal Food and Science Corp., Saskatchewan, Canada, will have exclusive marketing and sales rights. GLA is an omega 6 fatty acid with potential health benefits similar to those of omega 3 fatty acids, such as anti-inflammatory effects and improved skin health and appearance. Recent research indicates that GLA supplementation may play a key role in maintaining weight loss. Arcadia’s GLA safflower oil has up to 40% GLA, compared to evening primrose oil and borage, which contain 10% and 20-23% GLA, respectively.
